Cacti and Succulents

Thank you all I had intended putting bedding plants in it but then thought of using up a few of my succulent cuttings. They can stay in there permanently, no need to change them every year like bedding plants

Mine are nowhere as old as yours but I repotted them this year & it has made a lot of difference - though only one that hadn't flowered before produced a single flower - a sign of gratitude perhaps??? The only one that flowers every year again produced lots of cerise pink flowers again this...

Very strange. I got notification of a refund on the Aeonium Kiwi from Malta yesterday then this morning notification it has been shipped along with the Sedum rupestre syn reflexum cutting. Be interesting to see how long it takes as Malta was 10 days last time. I have decided against seed.

Why do you think it's diseased @Victoria ? There's a raised coloured pattern on the leaves and the flowers are going over but I thought some of them still looked all right. They are on a long spike..

Yep! I have one in the greenhouse too and I have to weed the babies out. I like it as a curiosity though.

Update 9 months later:Both experiments are alive and have some new growth. They probably would have more new growth if I hadn't totally forgotten about fertiliser That's sort of the basic stuff when playing with hydroponics but hey ho, at least they have not turned into swampy pea soup ...

It's only ths Coreopsis that had the RMB, and I didn't bring it in for the winter, it's a hardy plant so I left it outside. I kept it in a pot because it always rots in the ground here, and now it gets RMB in the pots so I don't think I'll be buying any more of them.

My cacti get watered and fed heavily in april, maybe again in june, a light splash in august then probably nothing at all for the rest of the year

Maybe the problem with the weak-looking shoots is that it's in too warm a place. The winter is dark, and succulents need a cool place with little or no water, because they should become dormant. Growing in the dark winter will lead to elongated weak shoots.

You can’t keep a good cactus down! Re. My poor neglected specimen, I have some cactus compost so will try adding some of that with some extra grit. Thank you for the advice!

There are two varieties of C. ovata with different leaf shapes to the 'normal' one. One variety has been named 'Golum' and the other 'Hobit'. They seem to have elongated leaves. I believe Golum has cup shapes ends to the leaves and Hobit has spoon shaped leaves. I have several Golums myself,...
