No effect/ What seems to be happening is that the Modem switches to Fax mode and only turns back to Dialup when removed and replaced.

Still a lot slower than using the Move command, especially when moving a lot of files from different places into a single folder.

THanks folks. I have discovered that it is a different method of compression which is why W 7 could not open it. AND, after all that I now find I do not need the program I was trying to decompress. Thanks again though.

Took the Computer back and guess what? It started up perfectly for them, no asking for System Disc or Backup, zilch. None of the reasons they suggested for the crash were sensible nor accurate. Brought it home and set it up. Afer the first Update of Windows, it had to do a ChkDisk before Windows...

Excellent point there Steve! If it's a genuine threat the official virus software sites will have the correct information and hopefully a remedy in their updates! As for facebook - I know it keeps suggesting a 'friend' to me.......as obviously searching but can't see anything due to privacy...
