Yes, I can recommend SpyBot though it does take a canny while to load. I also use AVG antivirus which is also free and had a 'best' rating by ComputerActive.I update and run them regularly, SpyBot at least once a week.

Thank`s for replying PC Medic,i`d just about given up.I`m using Microsoft Outlook Express.(6?)If i try to click on email i don`t understand any of it.So,i go to home page,type in my email and password and i`m able to read etc.I can reply from an incomming but if i try to send a new email it wont...

I use freebie software as well and have found it works well. I have AVG and Zone Alarm plus Spybot and Adaware. My ISP also filters the Spam. To add to what Dave W has said - most of these warnings about viruses are hoaxes but it doesn't harm to be careful. I don't like sending these on to...

Well done Michaelmasdaisey. Like DaveW I have used computers for a long time and didn't know that. It could well explain how the problem arose in the first case. Windows has a bad habit of changeing your layout without you ever knowing how it changed.

This is a common problem. I have found that if you set it not to turn the hard disc off it will be more likely to come out of standby. Better still turn it off and not only save energy but wear and tear on your hard disc.

I agree with sparkle. The first time I knew about .TMP I had thousands and once I'd cleared them I had no further probs.I also recently discovered another cache of .tmp associated with photography and image editing. It's called the scratch file and I got a pop-up wanring saying it was full...

Too true Peter. I remember getting lazy about backing up regularly - then had a hard drive go phtt, and lost 6 weeks of data. I never forgot again :eek: . Kinda wakes you up to how much irreplacable data you hold on your pc.So folks, like Peter says BACKUP REGULARLY
