It certainly will climb up for miles, Marge! We had ours in a container as I wanted to bring it with me when we moved, and it sneakily climbed up over the breidge, the shed, and across the grape...

Never had a problem with any of those root crops, but don't put them on freshly manured ground as that causes root fanging. With carrots I get carrot fly round here so you can either grow fly...

I saw the Gardeners World programme when it was first shown three years agoI tried the cradle method but didn't allow for the increased weight when the soil was wet and the plants had grown.....

Little d you could add lots of manure, compost etc. to try abd improve this part of the plot. Potatoes and brassicas may do well in this part and the potatoes will help break up the soil.

Growing Tomatoes outside
I wish I could grow Toms outside, tried on a few occasions when I have ran out of room in the greenhouse but its just too cold here on the east coast. :(
