well done you! mine died of powdery mildrew :( I will try growing a resistant variety next year.

I originally planted my cabbages to close together so they did not heart. However I have learnt from this. I gave them all a good foot and a half each side and they have grown fantasticallly with lovely solid hearts.Did you give your cabbages enough space? Are they a variety that hearts?

I have 4 rows of rasps with about 20 canes a row and we picked around 56pounds of fruit : which is slightly better than last year which was better than any prior year. Most of our canes are now over 9 years old and starting to die out so I dig out the dead or failing ones, dig in fresh compost...

That's a tough one Fancy, I'm vegan by choice. I do miss proper melting cheese though!

I would just like to let you all know that I picked my first melon today. It is delicious, so sweet and juicy.I have another four or five yet to ripen. I can't wait.

Thanks for that Pete, I guess my problem before has always been the lack of sustained heat then. I have a conservatory so light is not a problem, but it is unheated and gets no sun in winter so is bl**dy baltic from Dec to Feb. :( I'll have another go in late winter/early Spring. Fletch
