Another thing to try is decent compost.I have bought cheap seed and potting compost and sometimes find the seedlings either rot off or just won't grow and seem to stay static for weeks

How to use Gro-Sure Farmyard Manure as mulch for berries etc?
As no one has replied, I'll give you my thoughts for what they are worth. I don't use manure on established fruit trees/plants, I prefer to add Potash, either ash from a wood fire or Rose...
As no one has replied, I'll give you my thoughts for what they are worth. I don't use manure on established fruit trees/plants, I prefer to add Potash, either ash from a wood fire or Rose fertilizer. I also have stopped mulching fruit trees/bushes, I only put straw under ripening strawberries.

Does my fig tree look ok?
Yes mine are in the ground and basically small trees. Once established it will take minus 12C for short periods, normal lows of minus 5c doesn't bother it at all.I got a feeling it just grew...
