I agree with Dai, it can be a thug but a very attractive one.It also has the peculiar habit of producing good growth and prolific flowers for years and then suddenly dying with no sign of having been unhappy.

If you have any birds as pets @merleworld they will love Chickweed to nibble on.

Firs tend to have flat "leaves", and the upright blue/purple cones are a dead give away.

As far as I know they all do. It's not the colouring on yours which stood out for me (although it is beautiful) ... it's the lack of slug or snail damage to those leaves!!!

Yep Linseed, hauled loads of it, the seeds run like water and if your trailar is wet the seed stick like glue

They are and should last through to around August; you should deadhead the flowers after flowering and you can prune it in the Spring; gorgeous foliage!

Thank you so much for your replies! I'll keep an eye on the tree. So far the leaves look okay. We've had more leaf fall than usual, but we've also had some really high winds so that could be the cause.Harmony is there anything I can do to help the tree in the meantime?
