Quite right too! It's an impressive specimen. As Victoria said, if you could give us a hint as to your location, that would help, as the advice varies from Aberdeen to, say, Penzance. Generally speaking, though, you could chop the stems by half, then give it a feed of balanced fertiliser.

Rather reminds me of a white Wandering Jew ... but I don't think that is correct as the flower is not right ...

Yes, thanks I see it is now, the variation in leaves on the google link above showed quite a few species just like the one I photographed.

As Noisette says, it is very prolific and seeds freely. We have mostly purple but also yellow and some white. I would just love the varigated varieties ...

Thanks lost-in-france. I grew them from seed for the first time this year. The colour is amazing, loads of flowers and they've even survived one frosty night so far.

I forgot that I also grow Radicchio (red & green) in my lettuce beds and their flowers look even more like Chicory than the blue flowered lettuces But isn't that the same plant that @Silver surfer called chicory, but is sold as 'radicchio' and looks rather different? I can't...
