Hi I have uploaded another photo to see if this helps also the peach tree that we looked at the leaf does look very similar, any help is appreciated as we are mind boggled at the moment

I did put it badly didn't I! In truth they do lose their leaves and gradually die back and shrivel over two or three seasons (at which point I remove them). As I say, they do serve as "food stores" at first for the rest of the plant.

Thanks Silver Surfer I think you are right. I have informed my friend who was going to dig some of it up and put it in their garden. I think they will think twice about it now.

The third one looks like a Spruce.

Sadly most of the self seeders tend to be insipid colours. I did luck in and get a green tinged white flowering plant this year. But on the whole I pull/dig most of them out, and never let them go to seed as they cross pollinate and/or revert.

You could take some along to an Apple Identification session - which they usually have at Open Days on Apple Nurseries (there is even an Apple Day in the Autumn)

I've got some purple and some yellow. The yellow ones I've collected myself. They formed a long thin seed pod which I split open to get the seeds. I'm going to grow them myself again as I think they're lovely.

May I suggest you add a pic to show a leaf... and show us. The common Rowan is Sorbus aucuparia, but nowadays there are many new wonderful named cultivars. eg Sorbus Chinese lace. The leaves on this are markedly different from the ordinary Rowan.( many others are also very different) Maybe you...

Thank you, as ever, silver Surfer....I think it may be a cultivar of chokeberry. The leaves are more elongated, but the shape of the trees certainly rings true!
