    Melianthus has a blue green leaf which is waxy and leathery, slightly, and smells very peculiar. LongK's perennial is a yarrow or goldenrod type of thing with a much softer leaf texture.

    Agree that's what it looks like to me too. Maybe it hasn't grown very tall as it looks like it's competing with a fairly large Leylandii hedge.

    I don't think you can pollard Rhododendrons! I have my willow, sort of, pollarded :). When the tree gets big it's a "Don't try this at home" moment. This is done every five years....
