Hello newtoitall. They are Dutch Irises, possibly 'Romano'.

That looks like it thank you. No idea where it's come from though, doesn't appear to be growing in any neighbours gardens either. Nevermind, a pretty plant. At least it's not another weed!

Thanks Silver Surfer, as always you make the picture clearer. Looking at the images I did the leaves appeared opposite, but if they are alternate then it makes the id more definite. The leaves are bright green, lancelate in shape, but not hairy and nor are the stems. It appeared, unbidden,...

You have not given us much to go on. A photo of the flower and leaves etc would help.

I think the 2nd one may be Catanache(Cupids dart)
