    Thanks for trying folks, i will let them grow on a bit and see what comes of them and repost a newer pic. The plant in the 3rd and 4rth pic seems to grow at some rate and has deep roots and likes...

    If seeds develop then the pods will split open to reveal a bright red interior and shiny black seeds. Time scale is hard, but certainly not before the end of June.

    I thought the last picture looked like philadelphus too. You can cut them right back although I agree that isn't usual, I did it through desperation one year after several branches were damaged...
