Ooh no don't worry about cutting it back after it has finished flowering.. You can give it a bit of shape for next year that way & if you do the same after flowering next year it will be a nice thick plant.. They can be cut back quite hard so don't worry.. They can look a bit tatty in winter,...

Apparently if you want just the ordinary taro that's used in cooking you can just use shop bought tubers. Others are available from specialist nurseries. Probably better to wait till next year now.
