Unsay, it's Begonia Elatior, the indoor flowering Begona. There a several types and yours looks(ed) like the rosebud variety. They dislike overwatering as you have found out. There should still be some around even now, good luck.

Apparently if you want just the ordinary taro that's used in cooking you can just use shop bought tubers. Others are available from specialist nurseries. Probably better to wait till next year now.

I have a young P cerasifera 'Pissardi' which bore very little fruit this year ... and the birds ate that! :( It is truly a lovely tree.

I find it is best to pull it out when it is still a young plant. You might need to dig round it and get it out by the roots. Two things that seem to grow with great ease are bramble and cherry. How come that when I plant a cherry stone, it just sits in the pot yet when the birds do the...

I gave up growing Acanthus because of the fact that it spread it's seeds far and wide and it was the devil's own job to dig up unwanted plants with such long roots. Agree with the comments about the wonderful appearance in the border - such a stately plant......
