Technically they'e all Rhododendrons.. but the smaller ones get called Azaleas

Hi thereOh dear, yes, definitely the dreaded bindweed. For a thug, it has very pretty white trumpet flowers but it probably isn't quite what you had in mind when you planned a wildflower garden. Its roots (pale white-ish runners) spread quickly, which is why it seems to be springing up...

Well it doesn't have to be poor other flowers.. Get some Round Up.. tip some into a large jar or an old bucket & mix wallpaper paste with it..When you know it will be dry for a few hrs & it is nice & thick, put on some rubber gloves with old socks over the top.. Then get the weed killer mix on...

Hi snudge & Welcome to GC.. I am not sure by any means but how about Lobelia fulgns 'Elmfeuer... ??? Could have been spread by the roots when you were rotivating...!! It dies back in the winter, but is a lovely cottage garden type plant..:wink:

Salad burnet is nice in salad, in small quantities. I have a couple of plants in a large pot.

Aster novi-belgii ? Sort of tuber like. I remember planting something on a hurry as it started to rain at Easter but I cannot remember where I put them. I planted allium ostrowskianum, freesias and some iris, but that's the only types in that bed.Could it be asters? I can't find any pics of...

White deadnetle is a weed and not worth saving!

That is bindweed, if it is just a small patch you could try digging it out very carefully - the roots go down a long way - they are thick and white so easy to find in the soil, just don't leave any behind, even the smallest piece will quickly regrow.

I think the worst thing you can do with Ailanthus is cultivate the root area, any damage of roots will cause it to sucker. Cut it down to a stump and you get the most amazing shoots with massive leaves.

So do you have`wild garlic coming up all over the`place do you think as this is the time for that now & it has white flowers... :wink:

It needs a sunny well drained site.. and as we've mentioned , it can cause an allergic reaction... so not somewhere people can brush past it. It grows to about 2 ft at most!

I would be inclined to say the second one is foxglove too, possibly verbascum though. I like deadnettles too, and things are only a weed if you don't want them.

It's the same Angelica that is candied and used in baking. With plenty of room to grow, they can reach 2 metres tall and similar is width. I dug one out this winter as it was swamping everything. Fortunately they are biennials or very short lived perennials.
