Well In Kent its a bit too cold in winter for them so I have to grow in pots, but I understand they grow well unprotected in Cornwall. I find they self seed in all sorts of places. No real looking after needed, just a tidy up now and then, but as you know, dont remove the old leaf stalks,...

isn't it becoming invasive in some places? I'm sure I saw something about it on TV

As you say pete,with the leaves and the tendrils it definatley look like some kind of pea. 02

The one in your photo is a Japanese Azalea, as wilroda says. For summer flowering you could try a deciduous Azalea. Nice, bright flowers and some varieties are heavily scented.

One thing about them Walnut. Plant them when you want.:D

ThanksYes it has a gorges smell in the evening, I would say a mixture of chocolate/vanilla with a touch of flowers. It is also evergreen.I have taken cuttings, dipped in rooting powder but they just dried up and died. I have tried both hard wood and new growth

I heard of someone who had - presumably a patch of it, that hadn't been out of flower for 10 years. But the only one that I ever had died of wind-rock, which I think is one of its problems.

The Berberis is quite overgrown and in need of a hard prune - is it ok to do this now?Also the Oleria x haastii needs a trim, should I wait until after it has flowered?Thanks, Nick
