Most Sedges have triangular shaped stems that are solid. There are some species that are wonderful for the garden. That first plant looks attractive and we have a variation of it. I didn't know it was poisonous, lucky I have had any problems with it but now that I think of it nothing bothers it...

Before we did our garden, it was full of these. They grow so quick and look so prehistoric, we caled them triffids! lol

That is a better time to hack it down.

We live alongside a common where these trees grow - you will not need to take cuttings as it will seed everywhere there is a space for it to fly. Not a great plant for the garden I don't think.

On the same line I have some sedums as houseplants. Could they possibly go outside? The original plant came in a mixed basket one christmas and as it has grown bigger I keep chopping it down and rooting/potting on the offcuts. They look a lot like the plant in picture 1 and have white flowers

Some variegated Vinca has crept throught into my garden from next door. I have replanted it under some privet in a shady corner. It has certainly brightened it up.
