This sounds like the lily beetle but strange because it will only eat lilies. The only other red beetle I know is the soldier beetle which eats a wide variety of plants, but it has a red head and feelers. :confused:

Yes that's it! Thanks Blackthorn. Just read that it can be pruned hard which is good as it's around 1.5m tall at the minute.

It looks a bit like a Fittonia argyroneura to me.If so, it is a creeper and requires an abundance of water Spring through Autumn and little in the winter. It also does not like direct sun.

The visit was on 1st April, hence no leaves. I will simply have to go back to see.......

Most Sedges have triangular shaped stems that are solid. There are some species that are wonderful for the garden. That first plant looks attractive and we have a variation of it. I didn't know it was poisonous, lucky I have had any problems with it but now that I think of it nothing bothers it...

Before we did our garden, it was full of these. They grow so quick and look so prehistoric, we caled them triffids! lol

We live alongside a common where these trees grow - you will not need to take cuttings as it will seed everywhere there is a space for it to fly. Not a great plant for the garden I don't think.
