    @RoseBush I'd agree with In my experience, badgers keep coming to the same area for quite a while, so even if it was warm, it would be worth waiting in case they messed things up again.

    Thanks - all excellent advice. Builders' tramp slightly difficult to control however! I'll take the rough with the smooth and wait till spring then for its beauty treatment!

    How do you keep birds from eating your grass seed?

    I sow grass seed into plant cells ( A couple of 20 Cell packs) grow the grass on in the green house then plant out as plug plants. Seems to work great.

    Another possibility - have you moved the things that are standing on the grass? You can get brown patches under things like seats, the feet of swings, etc where they block the light and rain....
