Cut it at a high setting twice a week. Plenty of water and will soon thicken out again. :-)

In the picture below the blocks are at the same level as the lawn which means when mowing it doesn't matter if the lawn mower rolls over them. It also cuts out the need for a strimmer on the edges. Any mower is suitable because the blade doesn't sit at ground level and won't catch the blocks.

That looks great Tim, you've worked hard on it. It looks like a garden now.

We planted some about 7 or 8 years ago. They're about 12" apart and were about 6" high. They've filled out nice, we've kept them to about 18" high and about 12" wide.

whilst waiting on the proper tools arriving I have been aerating the lawn with a garden fork. the top few inches are pretty wet although not saturated at the surface, below about 3/4 inches the soil appears to be pretty compacted.I think it's started when my neighbour put it a double fence...

I always have a fair bit of moss in my front lawn, it's impossible to get rid of so I cut that a notch higher than the back lawn. I have five adjustments on my mower so use a two and three during the dryer part of the season.

@JWK Yea it's a great mower, I've got a friend who works pretty much directly with Husky so I get some pretty sweet deals on their stuff. I never wanted a petrol or electric mower as I was only ever going to have a smallish patch of lawn to maintain.Such a joy to tend to the lawn with this...

I heard of using plastic bottles as well,but filling them with water and laying them on the garden.Never tried it myself but I've was told that the birds and cats see their images in the water and it scares them off.
