Great plants and a good pic. I really like the old "red hot pokers" especially the "normal" ones, dont like those green ones all the garden designers seem to favour.

Good for you Poppy and I'm with you Michaelmasdaisy. I loathe the whole idea of docking the tails of dogs or horses. Ever seen a horse with no tail trying to switch away flies? Over the centuries, we have bred some very unfortunate dogs just for fashion or sport. Think of the breathing...

this is it in it's 3rd year & as far as i've noticed it's only flowered once but i keep the seedheads on ( like them ) but perhaps if i removed them maybe i'd be lucky enough to get a second flush :confused:

Sorry Lady of Leisure, don;t know the name at all.Yes Peter S I grow Astrantia Major - whilst I like the red variety, the white is a lot more subtle. It was one of my first plants in this garden - I fell in love with the flower - and it does indeed last a long time.

I used to have dozens, but she is a little promiscuous - this sis a bit of a runt of a self seed, so hope she stays with us.

Others on the site have seen HHM's, I have not been lucky enough this year, there's plenty of time, they often return to the same plants/flowers.

It's only about three years at the most, previous years it has looked a little stragely so I pruned it right down to abour 6" but this year I just left it and it looks so much better, probably prune it lightly in December this year and see what happens.

Deckchair????? More like one of those shooting sticks - they hardly take any room up at all!!!! Its looking wonderful!!!! You must be so chuffed!!
