I recommend Q4 clematis fertiliser. I put a handful in with newly planted clematis a few months ago and they have grown strongly and flowered well- much better than similar plants I put in last year without fertiliser. It's about a fiver for a decent sized box.

Thanks everyone. I have proped it up and given it a trim for now. I have also cleared a fantastic space to the left. Not a very sunny spot, but could put my potted strawberries there over winter or it come become my new 'micro' orchard and I could stand two of my potted dwarf fruit trees.
