How often and how much, are you watering adegard? Also, is the damage all around or just on 1 side?

Can we see some photos so we can get an idea of what you're working with? You may get some suggestions if you post some.

Trachycarpus are fairly shallow rooted compared to Cordylines which have a long tap root - they will all benefit from a decent soil depth at least 2' I'd say, considering they can grow to 12' or more then they need a decent root system to anchor them.

Before everything starts growing I would cut in lawn borders clean decking and patio paint fence and white wash certain walls, all the hard work landscaping is already done it just needs a little TLC and a few plants and you have a lovely garden

Hi Delay, You have a Euonymus japonicus hedge there, it will easily grow to 6 foot. Just keep the sides trimmed and allow it to reach the height you require. An annual feed or mulch will give it a bit of a boost.

Hi toppington, I doubt that putting sand in the cracks will stop weeds, unless it's mixed with a granular weedkiller that stops seeds germinating. Just the opposite....they'll have more to root into! If they are just annual weeds, the salt'n'vinegar thing should work, but not sure that they'll...
