Where you are 100% right WOO is at amateur shows. I have always thought that judges tend to favour certain varieties or colours or types. That shouldn't be the case but . . . . We're in California at the moment, where wwe'll be attending and or judging at three rose shows and it's the same...

I have Teasing Georgia climbing up an obelisk with a Clematis - although the fragrance isn't nearly as strong as some of my other DA roses.Also bought Golden Celebration this year which is stunning and very fragrant and the flowers are a lovely buttery yellow(Pics shown are of my Roses)....

You're right Music, roses do take a lot of looking after, but they're worth it!

All I do is give them some banananana skins

Sorry to be a bit late on this this thread but . . . . . . . . . . . rose cuttings are easy! Any rose can be rooted but some are undoubtedly easier (or harder) than others. Old Garden shrub roses are very easy. Ramblers are a cinch (is that how you spell it?) Climbers are OK but not perhaps...

Thanks noisette, I`ve already threaded one shoot to lie horizontal and I`ll try the others as well to see what happens. It`s late in the season now so perhaps I wont see any favourable results this year. Next year after a severe prune all should start again except that next year I won`t allow...

Oh dear very sad to hear Woo, a certain loss to the Rose World.. So young too..Yes it is very difficult to bear sometimes when you lose close family members in such quick succession Jiffy.. Life can be very cruel it seems sometimes..

Have a look through this thread Sian and see if anything takes your fancy. I bought all my roses bare root last year as they work out a lot cheaper, you can order now but they won't be delivered until November when they are dormant. Floribundas are probably the hardiest of the shrub roses,...

I agree with Sheal, apart from the use of Tomato Feed which is rich in Potash and could encourage the Rose to waste energy by trying to produce flowers again even late in the year but Miracle Grow General Purpose would be ideal. If you make sure that the plant is watered regularly for a month...

I sowed some wild flower seeds in a new raised bed I created at the beginning of June; later than the 1st of the month though. They are all growing nicely and some are just about to flower. I think (and I do hope I'm wrong) if you can't see any signs of growth by now, you probably won't.

As WOO said, if you can easily get access to them then no reason why you can't plant them there, although a photo of the area would be useful Clematis and Roses can be planted together - I have some climbing up the same frames in my garden, although there are some Clematis which would take...
