Thank you so much for this. It helps a lot.Currently, due to the risks involved with taking out the stump, we are thinking of just leaving it there with all its roots, and planting a new tree near it- does this seem like a good idea? If we left it to nature for the deceased roots to decompose...

I'm not surprised! Imagine leaving a tight tourniquet on someone's arm or leg for months.....

You may well see a root coming through the drainage holes soon, the shoot won't appear until next spring as Nigel says.

Shame on you for even planting conifer trees. Unless you want to attract rabbits, then go ahead I prefer something more edible. Blueberries, Aronia or Amelanchier. And birds may (scratch that, they WILL) eat your crops but they are a lot more fun to look at than some rabbits slowly felling...

Plums, cherries etc best time to prune is June and July. They are prone to Silver Leaf a fungal disease see here Silver leaf I've not seen it on apple trees though.

Looks like bacterial canker. Have you noticed any weeping or exudates from the bark at all?

Looks like some kind of blue spruce, just wondering if it had an insect attack last summer.

If it was in leaf when you received it then it was probably polytunnel grown to induced early leaf growth for early sales. Acers are prone to frost damage, my sometimes are but they will grow through it.

Its worth a try, you could also try another one if you have a suitable branch.
