I have a lovely magnolia that I got about three years ago. Not very big yet, but it flowered twice this year too! We have had very strange weather here in Canada too this year!

It must not be pruned in the dormant season. Cherries would then get silver leaf disease. You can prune them after the leaf buds have burst.

I go along with walnut. Definitely looks like a Eucalypt. I suppose you could paint the top of the stump with Arbrex. Should stop any form of disease getting in
