Italian Cypress or Juniper Skyrocket?
Hi Tweezers, Blue Arrow is actually bred from Skyrocket but is much tighter in habit. Height-wise you are looking at about 3 metres in 10m years with an eventual height of abiut 10 metres. David.

Which tree to choose?
Cratagus Pauls Scarlet is my favourite, Beautiful pink and white flowers in May and berries through the winter. It loves a good prune so can easily be kept in check if it grows too much.

Thanks for the advice, I shall give it a go. I'll keep an eye on it though Pal I don't want to find it caking on or in the soil.

Tree roots
Yes, they're a pest, if you have a big tree nearby you have to be constantly checking for little seedlings. They grow really quickly in the most unlikely places, like Buddleia.
