No open to ground below so would soak away, would use filter pipe (holes in it) and maybe fill with stone?Dont really know if it is a good Idea or not.

I agree palms do not have a big root system, I've seen them being moved in Jamaica, huge ones and they had big round root ball.

I have an acer which I've had for nearly six years. I've only ever trimmed the dead tips off in spring.We live next to the sea and it is very windy but my acer is about 5 feet tall and thriving, even though my mother inlaw said it would die!Ha Ha

Not all Apple trees are self fertile, but if there is another one close by that flowers the same time you should be in with a chance. Fingers crossed

Acers always look dead in winter as they are dicidious, I would just cut off any brown dead looking tips and if you've just repotted it then I would'nt feed it for a couple of months, they don't need alot of food as they are very slow growing :D

Thanks for that Celia. No, there is nothing between the upper sideshoots and the tip. I think I will give it another week then if there is no activity chop it! That way, I figure the energy gets diverted to those sideshoots instead of the tip that was knocked off by it's clumsy owner!

For me, planting a tree is best done in the autumn - gives the roots time to settle before the spring and summer.Just remember that a tree in a container needs a lot of feeding and watering. Planting at this time of year means you need to water at least every week.

Hi penguin, a good hedging conifer is Thuja plicata atrovirens the Western Red Cedar. It is slower growing than Leylandii, has aromatic foliage, is more compact than Leylandii and will regrow if any foliage dies off. David.
