Hi Agian.Thanks for the comments.We have a relatively young Arbutus in our front garden which has flowered & fruited from the day it arrived.Perhaps it is a dwarf variety and is in fact quite old compared to the non-fruiting one.I suppose I'll just have to wait & see.Cheers.Ian.

The kids have one in their garden here, always plenty of seed pods but no idea if the the seeds are viable or not.

Could be scab, bad year for it round here with the warm damp weather. I spray with copper sulphate (Bordeaux mixture) every 2 weeks or so until harvesting. This is allowed under organic growing systems I believe. You can use Dithane if you do not mind sprays.
