Thanks for the picture. At first I thought it was Lilac but the leaves aren't set right for that and now I'm struggling. I recognise it but can't put a name to it, sorry! Perhaps other members can id it for you.

Think Lolli is on the right track, some kind of prunus, possibly plum, or damson. Dammed if I can see the fruit, but then I am a bit sloe at times.

Looks wrong for Sloe, but could be a Damson that hasn't born any fruit, are the stems just as red all around, or is one side lighter?

Not really. Might be OK outside in the South, or a mild winter, but will fare much better if indoors / frost-free.I would think that a 12" pot may be too big for a plant that is only 8" tall - there is risk that the water you provide, absorbed by all the soil in the 12" pot, will take the 8"...

You are spot on with that...when I got them thinned out at the bottom there were 2 growing together.Now she wants the ivy removed because it's grown into the garage and shed roof space and is well on its way up the house wall!!I'll have to do another post for that :-)
