    hawthorn 3yr old hedge - plants slowly 'dying' one by one...

    If the ground is rock hard, can we take it its clay? I think hawthorn doesn't like compacted clay. I also wonder if you can save the dying trees by cutting them back severely. Hawthorn responds...
    If the ground is rock hard, can we take it its clay? I think hawthorn doesn't like compacted clay. I also wonder if you can save the dying trees by cutting them back severely. Hawthorn responds very well indeed to brutal pruning, but I suspect at 3 years old they may not be ready for that yet.

    Victoria, I think it's been there for few years but so it's probably settled in already. It's only options are to be killed or moved so if moving it kills it at least the foundations will be ok....
