Trees

I'm guessing it depends on what kind of path you are wanting, and how much traffic it's likely to take. I could see it being OK if only really used during the summer months, and tends to fit a woodland setting maybe. If it gets muddy it could be a nightmare in winter.

This tree, in a friend's garden in the Lake District, has eaten most of this protective fence. It has only got this side to eat, now.

Potentially you could spread disease ... but I don't see much wrong with it either. Sending it for landfill would be pretty environmentally unfriendly ... Taking it to the dump is probably the best alternative - assuming they have a section for plant waste that is then composted

I may not remove the buds, but I will stop all the trees from fruiting this year....

For what i paid for some of my bamboos, i really hope they spread a bit! Well worth selling the bits i may have to take off!

I'm not a bamboo grower, I must admit, I only have a couple. But I dont think the stems grow new leaves each year. You should hopefully get new stems grow up, with new leaves.

Thanks for the good advice. I never thought about the shade for the hostas. The Red Robin needs trimming as its grown all lopsided due to the tree. There was a Hebe under the tree which I've removed as it was all woody and overgrown, I hope to keep the holly bush but that too will need shaping....

Plums, Apples, Pears and quince are grown in Yorkshire on steep hillsides which are about your height above sea level. They are also making wine from this too, as what was on Coutryfile. They also grow Rhubarb for wine too.

It should be greening up now, but as you've only just done yours, maybe another month perhaps. You can't really put a timescale on it. I planted some at technically the wrong time of year once and nothing happened that year, and I nearly wrote it off, but the following year it just rocketed.

Dunno if relevant, but I scrub the trunks of my Silver Birch ... they come up a treat I just use a bucket of water and a scrubbing brush, although I do wonder if Power Washing would do (and not do any damage) was it would be a more arm-chair approach that I think I would enjoy more

I try NOT to prune my Japanese maples as I believe they take on better shape naturally. I will, however, periodically remove lower branches to help display the trunk I would NEVER remove the leading bud unless I was wanting a dwarf tree or training for Bonsai There can be a dilemma where a tree...

Thanks for that info Whis4ey - I have had no success with cuttings - but will definitey try the seed route. I have the start of flowers on one of mine at the moment - will keep an eye on them. S

I got the saw out this afternoon and whipped the dead half of the tree off. Madahhlia - I take it that is a variety of honeysuckle? Is it not suitable for climbing or something?
