If the main stem has been damaged I would normally not buy this plant. However, it may be that there is an adjacent stem that could be trained as a new leader I really would need to see the tree before I could offer any advice On the other hand, 15 quid for a Griseum isn't taking too big a chance

Not sure how often you mean by 'infrequent' watering? Looking at the photo, I'd say a Box in a container that size would need watering at least 2 or 3 times a week if it's in full sun to keep it in good condition. A little feed about once a fortnight would help too.
