It depends where you are in the country I guess. In the SouthEast its not that cold for prolonged periods. 10 years ago I had a nice DS and it perished due to bad advice about packing with straw...

The chart came from Norwich Unions website about safe distances from buildings etc. As with all insurance stuff, I concur with Treesurfers advice to take it with a pinch of salt.

Help Please...!!! Very poorly rowan tree
Thank you all for the input, I am much heartened and suspect that I have been overwatering in the dry spells (plus we've had torrential downpours like everyone else). I shall tuck it in snuggly...
