what tree for giving some cover
Seconded!!What about silver birch; fairly quick growing, size and shape can be contained, good for wildlife, attractive, not too expensive and it makes a nice rustling sound in the breeze.

I don't know about Birch, but I planted 100 new trees over christmas, they were decimated by rabbits shortly after, then almost all formed new buds from near the base. I whacked some tree...

No you just prune it lightly to keep it in shape.. Mostly tip prune Euonymus in Spring to & then just prune out...

Question on Fir Trees
Hi JayneyG,Sounds like the brown parts are just where the light is no longer getting to the branches so the tree loses them. It's a natural response to lack of light and occurs in all trees....

Iron chelates? Can't hurt... I've also heard anecdotal evidence of people watering them with a very dilute solution of vineger.... can't say I've tried this one myself, though!

HELP - My acer going 'twiggy'
