Water Gardening

Do it early in the year (before you have a problem). Put it in your diary for next year It takes a while to work, I reckon 28 days, and once you have a problem that gets bad, fast, and quicker than the barley straw can solve it. So better as prophylactic, than cure, I reckon.

This has always worked for me. I assume you have a filter?

Cheers for advice. Well I decided to empty it as the pump and filter just didn't seem to be clearing it and I am glad I did , there was that much muck and sludge on the bottom it was unbelievable and there would have been no way would it have cleared. I think it or most of it came from plants...

Hi Gloria, thanks for that info. Preformed ponds are pretty durable and tough but I would be careful of letting anyone walk around in it. Another question....... what do you intend to do with it?, plant it up with marginal, oxygenators, etc, put fish in???

If you have ever tried removing a large water lilly from a pond you will know it aint easy. Transportation would also be a problem.Might be easier to just take the photos at a pond that actually has lillies growing in it already?

I would say fish poo is the problem too many fish for the filter or that could do with a good clean out which they all need periodically to keep them working well I would also suggest to him to do PH test of the water and then check if thats ok ? , quick fix is to to do regular water changes...

.....it didn't take long for them to germinate! Good stuff!

I would just leave a Rush and not prune. (Personal opinion.)

One or two would have done!!!, noksucow, as it will grow quite quickly and help take out the nutrients and also oxygenate the water naturally. A good choice, and don't be afraid in the following year to remove some if needed.

An inspired idea, indeed! Haven't tried it personally. On the heron front, I have heard of putting a "barrier yarn" a certain height .. but that wouldn't stop detritus from falling into your pond My concern, given the winds we are battling recently with, would be in keeping those hoops...

Well, depending on the size of the plants it's not a bad selection especially as it includes the baskets which will save you messing around. I doubt whether the offered plants are of any real size but are probably young and plug sized so it will take them a full year to become sizeable. ...

If the pond is not very deep, and just "punctured", it will not drain properly to function properly as a bed. Better to remove the liner, sort out the soil under the pond (e.g. loosen it a bit - it won't have had any air for years) and then put topsoil in if that is what you want.Agree with...
