The brand of seed mixture I get has a mixture of seed, meal worms, and dried fruit in it. I never discover discarded meal worms or fruit, just the seed that the birds don't appreciate!!

Yes, Shiney, the expired dates etc. can be misleading to some. I never observe them, and always use my nose or taste buds. It truly is a waste of money to do other wise. And with this practice I have "never" got sick.

Well in the summer I'll remove the net and put some pot plants around the pond to deter the herons, but I find the frogs rarely leave the pond during winter, they can get out if they want to, and are very good at scrambling up the stone work at that end of the pond.
