I thought sparrows had disappeared but we've had a flock of them gorging themselves on the seed tufts of Cortaderia Richardii all week. The fronds are bouncing up and down with them non-stop. And, swallows, Grrrr! They've decimated all my whirlygig beatles!

My own cat is getting older and not as agile as he was. I dont think he would get up there, but next door's is a young cat and has no such challenges. k-l

We are very lucky and have a proper little flock of tree sparrows. Ours tend to be a little more shy than the house sparrows. They are quite a pretty little bird.

Its just that, is it OK to plant lawsons cypress, or maybe thuja, or cupressus, or any conifers for that matter. Most have similar problems regarding cutting back if allowed to get out of hand and all grow fairly fast if not quite at the rate of leylandii.

Clare; they can eat a lot! We have more than our fair share of fat wood-pigeons visit our bird table. They clean up the seed on the ground the smaller birds scatter so I don't mind too much, they are too ungainly to perch on our table - they are quite funny to watch waddling around the garden in...

Another great job Karl, we have an extended family of about 10 Sparrows and there is a healthy population here. Large new builds are also the reason for the Swifts' decline too.:(
