Wildlife Corner

Im having trouble with big rooks raiding my feeders ,there latest trick is to dive bomb them so that the seed drops to the ground. Any suggestions for a good Rook proof feeder.

Yip ... I have decided the same I was confused because its behaviour seemed wagtailish to me Ah well ... we live and learn

well these are relativley small to some of the spiders we have in our garden i once found a wolf spider which was roughly 10cm big it soon found the bottom of a brick

@ Strongy, tip, go on a weekday out of peak holiday season, we went on a monday, not quite deserted but much easier to get around.The best time supposedly for water birds there is autumn/winter when all the winter migrants come in. Also during the summer months there is a lot more foliage...

Thanks, Strongy. The one that is changing his coat is the weeny one that I had up in the slideshow. So at least we know now that he is a gecko.There did seem to be no end of different ones there, and all of these were in the kids garden, so out and around there must be countless...

I DO NOT LIKE SNAKES. FULL STOP> I must be careful next time when I dig the compost heap. I never gave it a thought about snakes living in compost heaps. May be they know I dont like them. Now I dont mind spiders and other creepy crawlies but snakes NOOOOOOOOOOO

I use a circular flat tray that hangs from the tree, like mesh, so you get drainage.( got it from the garden centre) They dont last long though, the robin and the male blackbird polish them off in no time. Glad we dont have starlings too, otherwise I'd have to take out a secong mortgage to pay...

You'd think the slime whould help it to slide down! lol I used to have a giant african land snail, but it was never half as slimey as some of my garden slugs - yeeeuk!

Amazing photos WOO! I would LOVE to have a family of foxes livce near us! Do post more pics if you see them again (and good wluk with your 'fight for the foxes'! When I lived in Edinburgh, I used to see quite a few, not so many here (or maybe i'm just not out at night so much nowadays!)

Your right Pete, the swarm was either collected or simply moved on natuarally. Lyn, Honey bees are comparitvly safeunlike wasps they dont really atack.
