Album: The Oak's Year

00000000000000000000000000008356This is a favourite tree of mine, an old Oak which sits isolated in a field, on the edge of the estate where I work. It sits on the side of a hill, in quite an exposed location, taking everything the British climate can throw at it throughout the year. The soil is quite poor and sandy, rabbits burrow around its base and winds buffet it from every direction. Yet year after year it stands there, steadfast and solid. It is quite a photogenic tree too. So, at the beginning of 2012, after capturing a January sunset shining through its branches one day, I hit upon the idea of photographing the tree month by month, throughout the year. In effect, I wanted to record a 'year in the life' of this sturdy Oak. So began my year long project. I tried to capture the tree from every angle, from close up and from a distance, in all weathers and seasons. Here is the end result.
