Mine are back in growth after being out all winter.
@pete may be able to answer this - when I mollycoddle them they don't come back into growth without the heat of a greenhouse. Left out they are back in growth despite a lack of any warmth. My question is, am I keeping them too dry when I put them under cover?

Forgot all about that. Must have a think about what I can offer you now!

A new Canna thread ! I remember the first ( ?) thread in 2012 which got to well over 600 posts. That's when I grew my first Canna Tropicana from seed . The rhizomes are still split and replanted every year , I have 9 growing around me now Tropicana and Bengal Tiger . Not bad from 5 seeds for 99p :blue thumb:

Sorry was in a rush last night
I do know where you are coming from.

My usual approach is to keep them bone dry in the cold garage all winter, then water and move to the greenhouse before splitting.
This year I've just put the pots outside, in the last two weeks, and let them get on with it, most are now shooting, which is faster than when I move them to the greenhouse.

I can only guess its down to the rain actually wetting the pots better than watering does, temperature doesn't seem to be the biggest factor in getting them moving.

I've done the same with the gingers, and they are shooting also.

Same here, dug most of mine up in December and just dumped them on newspaper with the soil left on in the GH. They started shooting a couple of weeks ago, they are now all potted up in the unheated GH doing there thing. Last year I moved them into the house to get them moving at Mrs Mowgley displeasure :nonofinger:. Not this year

Did you leave all the dead foliage on them outside? I did.no idea if that helped keep them protected? @pete @longk

I did @joolz68 if that's any help. I left 2 in the ground as a experiment
Can you remember those musaiflora seeds you sent me last year? I didn't get any too germinate and now I know why!
It must of been the compost because I've sown the same batch of seeds as last year and now I have a canna forest looming large. I still have a Skyhawk here for you

Mine were cut back and overwintered in the garage, it was only the startup that was slightly different this year.

6 overwintered tubers potted up in the greenhouse, 3 have started shooting. Found some seeds from last year I'd forgotten about and sowed them end March, at the least I should have some more tubers to save for re-planting in 2017.
