As a newcomer to this forum. I did hesitate before starting this thread.
However, with the shootings this week in Orlando, the violence being played-out by mindless hooligans in France.....and now the horrific stabbing & shooting of a young mum and MP in Yorkshire, I felt I must.
So much hate in today's world!

Sorry about that, I needed to say it.

I didn't want to be sad today, it's my lovely daughter's birthday!

Much appreciated, Woo.....though I see nothing 'glass half-full' about today's world.

From one who has been around for a while and seen better days. ;)

There is bad in the world. But the trend is improving. I don't believe we execute young women anymore just because they have the wrong colour eyes or a suspicious birth mark. I don't think the whole world is at war, with an entire section of society being sent to labour camps and gas chambers. In many countries, including believe we've given up sacking people from their jobs or even imprisoning them for their sexual orientation.

There's a long way to go before its all good, and there will be turbulence along the way, but when I consider various points in history, both distant and recent, it seems to me we're heading in the right general direction.

hi David and welcome. I do undestand your frustration and I agree 100% with the post just under yours. Why media choose to let out so much information, fully aware of the disruption that they create in everyday life, i dont know. I just wish you many happy moments, that nothing can take away from you.

Thanks for your positive input, guys......but trust me, I'm an old timer and have known gentler times.
Anyway, we have a burfday to celebrate....just wish she wasn't holidaying in Greece on her big-hug day.

There's parts of the world has been fighting for years, even before i was born(not before the Romans) and it isn't going to stop now, it would be nice if the news would put somethings nice on for a change, I just take life from day to day now and if someone winds we up i just laff about it, we've had the days when someone was trying to put us down in the ground all because they heard some nasty gossip which wasn't true lucky we found out what was going on before it was to late and put a stop to it which it did :yahoo:

Anyway happy birthday David K daughter

So at a guess, you are somewhere between my age and my dad's age.

My dad tells me of the frequent gang violence between mods vs rockers, teds vs some other hairdo I can't recall etc. Then there's the various riots from his time but mostly before my time.

Then in my childhood there was the civil war that was the coal miners strike. I remember many scenes on TV of coppers beating people up. Or people beating coppers up. Or people beating their friends, neighbours and colleagues up just for being in the wrong trade union.

On the international scale I remember news of gas attacks in the middle east. Genocide attempts in the middle east and then Europe. And constant fear of nuclear war with the Soviet union.

I also remember there being no Internet, only 2 TV channels that had news programmes, and a handful of daily newspapers. With half an hour per day to report the news, and no means for ordinary folk to look for additional details, the news had to be selective. There simply wasn't the time or the medium to report everything like there is today.

I remember the first live televised military battle. It was an allied artillery bombardment in Iraq. I remember being surprised at how orderly it was. Guns firing rhythmically and soldiers acting calmly. I'd always imagined it would be utter chaos.

The world is not getting worse. It is on the whole getting better. It's just that more stuff gets reported now. More information is available now. And sadly, a human trait seems to be that only bad news is exciting enough to interest the masses. So bad news is what sells.
