So we have had the first day or so of Mrs Mays leadership.....

I'd like to say that ( this is my own personal view ) I was at first pleased that she had won although, I don't agree with the way she won. I feel personally that there should have been another chance for people to put their names forward. She was basically handed it on a plate.

Perhaps it's just me being a bit suspicious but I find it amazing that the two people who pulled out of the leadership contest have both been given cabinet posts. ( Also Pritti Patel who was very vocal during the referendum campaigning ).

I also find it amusing that she works closely with several women's rights groups etc and said that she would be promoting more women to the cabinet, well....... in David Cameron's last cabinet 10 out of the 21 posts were occupied by women, now........ in Theresa Mays cabinet 8 out of 23 ( 2 new posts being created ) are women.

    Isn't this going backwards ?

I did find the reactions of politicians from around the World highly amusing on hearing the news about Boris Johnson, especially the American.

I think this will create another question now for the UK to ponder, along with ......

' What happens with regard to Europe after Brexit etc ? '

' What will happen with regards to Scotland ? '

' Will Mrs Mays first Cabinet appointments make the UK a laughing stock in the rest of the World ? '

      Perhaps it's a step forwards.

Perhaps she has chosen her team based on their skills and experience and suitability for the role regardless of gender, and on the day, of the candidates available, perhaps those she thought best placed just happened to be male.

I've never understood how it can ever be considered politically correct to say their should be at least as many women in a role as men. I'm not sure if that's discriminating against men by giving preference to a woman just because she's a woman, whether it's insulting to women for the same reason, suggesting that they are not quite as good but allowances will be made for them, or both.

Surely the way to fairness and political correctness can only be to completely disregard gender entirely unless it can be shown to be distinctly relevant to the role.

Hi Clueless I agree with you totally but I do think she shouldn't have said anything about it beforehand.

          That's politics! :dunno:

I would like to give May a chance to prove herself. After all, she has spent many years in the cabinet (not closet :heehee:) being able to sum up the abilities and faults of the members as they sat around the table.

Good morning over the years there have been certain people that have been there at critical and difficult times when the Britain needed them ;) Theresa May is going to Scotland to day for a meeting with Nicola Sturgeon , we shall wait and see:smile:

I agree, it`s wait and see at the mo. Though, apparently, there is no Brexit without the nod from Sturgeon.

This is not meant as an insult to anyone, just a comment.

Living outside of the UK as I do, and having seen news from several different European countries since Brexit, I can say this. The UK has become a laughing stock, so why should Mrs Mays Cabinet appointments be any different?

For the first time in my life, I am ashamed to be British...

Why should we be a laughing stock SG? Europe needs the UK more than we need them. Also, why do you feel ashamed of your fellow countrymen because we decided enough was enough of Merkel, Hollande etc.

I quite like that we're a laughing stock in Europe.

It is infinitely better to be underestimated than overestimated.

Besides, our European friends need all the laughs they can get while they can. Europe is cracking financially, politically and socially. I take no pleasure in that thought, but it's there for anyone to see once they stop burying their heads in the sand. If it helps maintain their happy delusion to laugh at us, then I say keep laughing my friends.

                      Hi @Sandy Ground ,

I don't take it as an insult, I think it's good that we get the opinions of Brits that live abroad :)

I'm just not sure of her capabilities.

She's put Pritti Patel in charge of a department that Pritti has publicly claimed should be abolished.
And, who's in charge of Defra, only the woman who wants to bring back fox hunting claiming that they are vermin and no harm is caused by killing in this manner, who, also wants to stop farmers subsidies !

As for Boris....... Lets just say I hope he never has to go to Turkey. How would he feel if someone called him a " wankerer " ( his word not mine ), and said that he slept with goats. Lets just gloss over China and everywhere else.

How can such a man be given respect as the head of the foreign office ?

 Not according to this report:
I'm not in the least surprised. They couldn't exactly be seen to be shouting/reporting "Bravo!" because the EU doesn't really want any other European countries seeing their own version of a Brexit as a real possibility ;)

It is still far too early in the day to know how this will all pan out. It may be disastrous, it may not; only time will tell for sure.
