If they can be seen amongst all of the weeds! Some of the 150 Ilex Crenata, one of the Katsura, and some of the hornbeam. The latter are only just beginning to show their leaves. IMG_3998.JPG

Some on here will remember that earlier on this year, I had to dig up a part of the front garden to lay new drains. What started out looking like this...

      IMG_3942.JPG

      ...went to looking like this...

      IMG_3977.JPG

      ...and then this...

      IMG_3985.JPG

A few weeks later, after the addition of some grass seed, it looked like this...

      IMG_4237.JPG

If the fence is compared to how it looks in the second photo on this post, it can be seen that has also had a couple of changes. The yellow pipe sticking up between the second and third posts from the right is a bit of forward planning. Late this year, or early next a 100/100 internet cable is going to be installed. It will go through that pipe. Theres even a wire runs all the way through it to make the job easier!

A couple of days ago, when at the garden centre, I saw that they had some hedging thuja on special offer. 31 were purchased, so the area now looks like this...

      IMG_4238.JPG

That more or less completes this years new planting. I'm now looking forward to next Spring, and continuing to work on this area.

        Looking good

Your Katsuras aren't the normal Japanese maple variety, are they? They look to tall and slim to be those.

The Katsuras are Göteborg E. In one sense, not the usual japanese variety. All of this variety come from one tree. It was planted by a gentleman called Rudolf Abelin somewhere between 1906 and 1920. This (rather poor) photo shows the parent tree.

There is what I consider to be an interesting story about the garden that this tree is in. Might start a topic...:)

Agreed, it does look quite different.

Difficult to tell on the photo, but does that have the typical heart shaped leaves?

To me, that looks more like an acer. Also known as Japanese Maple. Cercidiphyllum japonicum (Katsura) leaves are quite different. They look like this...

                katsurablad_i_narbild.jpg

Depending on where you live, they are also known as Candy Floss Trees, Cotton Candy Trees, or sometimes Gingerbread Trees.

I thought that I would add this photo, its my favourite one of the garden in many ways. However, more planting has been done since it was taken.

The very first change to the garden of 2017. The new rose beds. By rights, these should have been started last Autumn, but time constraints put a stop to that.

As things stand, its looking like the new roses can be collected this coming weekend.:yay:
