Not a particularly pleasant introduction to GC for a new member.

Perhaps, Strongy, but at least Sharon has seen that even on GC, which is without doubt the friendliest Forum I know, there are differences of opinion which can lead to a loss of humour.:dunno::snorky: But yes, I agree, not the best introduction for a new member.:wallbanging:

We have discussions, that means we dont always agree.
A forum where everyone agrees is a total waste of time IMO.
If it gets personal, then we have crossed the line.

Perhaps the virus debate should have been on a separate thread.

Unfortunately, Strongy, Threads are not that clear cut and tend to stray, diverge, meander off the original subject. The virus debate would have only gone the wrong way again on a separate thread due to the strength of the characters and their opinions:dunno:.........................or do you disagree???:doh::whistle::heehee::loll:

Your probably right Strongy, but some of the best threads have been ones where they have just run on, someone comes up with a question that can probably be answered in two posts, but things all go off at a tangent, not planned, but they can get interesting.

Dai, it's not a question of you stepping back or, for that matter, anyone else stepping back.
Gardeners Corner covers, and discusses, nearly every subject under the Sun and in all the thousands of Threads there are bound to be difference of opinion. It's how those discussing the subject handle the subject and not give offence or take offence. It's well known that you are a trained Horticulturist of many years of experience and people respect that. But there are other members who are also qualified or just experienced to a great degree that are entitled to disagree with other opinions. Let's all just remember that other members do have opinions, experience and beliefs and that we have to pay respect to that. So nobody needs to step back, retire, retreat, from a discussion but everyone needs to know when to agree to disagree.:dunno::snork:

Ive never owned a varigated canna so i was no judge to them being virused at the beginning of the thread,i find it hard enough with full colour leaves wondering at any week mine could of caught the viru, the main reason i avoid varigated.
I did once i think in 2013 have a varigated come from seed, will look and find a photo or the previous yrs threads.
