i have got a salix tree

    i have got a salix tree and i have found two shoots growing up from the bottem of the trunk with long green leaves.

    Hi Stephen,

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner

    I presume you have a standard or mini standard variegated one such as " Flamingo " ?

    If so, then it sounds like it's suckering from the roots. The best thing to do would be to pull the new shoots off, gently pulling downwards, otherwise they'll gradually grow and take over.

      In that case I would definitely remove any green shoots you find.

      This is called " reverting ". What this means is that the plant is reverting back to its normal green state, and it would eventually turn all green which you don't want.

      It's was enough to remedy as in the above post.

        My Salix flamingo is reverting to the green bin next week . It was a really lovely miniature standard last year , but seems to be waning by the day now ..

        Sorry to hear that Harry, they're beautiful little trees. What's wrong with it ?

            @Anthony Rogers , mine was like that last year . Just seems to be stunted and sickly this year . I am sure Tesco or Asda will have the little standard salix on offer again next spring. They are very popular these days :blue thumb:
