These Oak? trunks were attached to conifers in a wood with barbed wire. Very strange. Anyone hazard a guess as to the reason. I can't think of one. :(

That has me beat. Why are the logs raised off the ground, as well.

It seems a bit odd to say the least.

Both trees have been partly cut through also.

Could there be a plan to make the trees fall? Seems odd though. If it was that, for the effort to get those trunks lifted and secured, it would be easier and safer just to cut the trees if that was the goal.

I cant see where the trees have been partly cut through, but I can see the wire is pretty much embedded in the trunks and the resin running down.
Also it looks like someone has gone to the trouble of boring holes right through the oak trunks in order to thread the wire.

I didn't see them myself personally.

Swinley Forest in the middle of over 2,500 acres. Only three trees in the whole area were done this way.

Is there lots of woodpecker there, if so it may be but there so woody's use the oak tree to beet up and leave the other tree alone which is what they will harvest

Could they be sites for pheromone traps to monitor Oak Processionary Moths? (which wouldn't be in position at this time of year)

                Swinley Forest - Wikipedia

Guy who took these photographs has had no reply to his e-mail to Forestry people about them so no-one can work out yet what these are for. I personally think it's something to do with the Army. It looks like their work. But I don't know. :(

Of course, stand the deserter infront of the oak log before shooting him, that way the living tree doesn't get damaged, simple.:ideaIPB::snorky:
