When they were renovating the cathedral in Salamanca some bright spark decided that a carving of an astronaut would improve it. :heehee:

Is it worth it? I think it probably is. I suppose it depends on whether or not one thinks that a major historical and political building is worth preserving. I tend to look at these types of projects in a simplistic way, economically. 'We' pay the bill, which pays the wages of those concerned, who in turn pay tax and buy goods. A money-go-round really. See? I told you I was simple :snorky:

          Very good point Freddy :)

Main arguement is if it was the last building of it's kind, would you conserve it or knock it down and build a new one?

          I can't answer that one....

But I do have a quote written in one of my college books saying something like "Britain should be proud of it's conservation techniques, the sails of HMS Victory are on display today, and will be on display in another 500 years."

Which is why I never run down a millionaire who is paying my wages,;)
As long as they are spending it, it's ok with me.

Come to think of it, I've not worked for one for ages:scratch:

See, to me, history is important. To me, it's a way of relating to what's gone on before. I suppose one could conduct business in a portacabin, if money was the only issue
