Yeah but you save £60/month gym fees because you have a plot to dig over, weeds to be pulled out and compost to be lugged about :)

I must admit on Supermarket prices, apart from new potatoes, as in Jersey Royals, but my International Kidney are just as good, at half the price, When it comes to the rest you can not beat home grown for taste and cost

I've read online that some deliveries of seed spuds from Scotland are supposedly being delayed due to current weather conditions. I don't know whether that's due to traffic conditions or not wanting spuds sitting on trucks in freezing weather.

I've also heard that Scottish tatties are in short supply due to being sold abroad, not sure either rumour is true. Skea, who are not far from me reckon they are increasing production this year, though Sarpo varieties are their main stay.

... I bought a packet of "Duke of York" on Saturday  :lunapic 130165696578242 5: I understand them to be first earlies worthy of baking, boiling and roasting. So ... :fingers crossed:

I am planning to grow some spuds in big tubs in my unheated greenhouse to try and get an early crop. I've also bought a variety of seed Potatoes to grow outside. I understand about putting the chitted seed Potatoes onto about 6 inches of compost and then cover with say about 3 ins of compost and keep adding compost until you reach the top of the tub. What I'm not so clear about is when to start to feed? I will be planting in a mixture of rotted horse manure, garden compost bit of sharp sand and leaf mould. Am I right in thinking Potatoes don't like it limey? and as I have a large quantity of Phostrogen (bought very very cheap ages ago) would that be ok to feed the spuds and when do I start feeding? Thanks.

Phostrogen is too high in Nitrogen for spuds.

P.S. Was that from Homebase when they were selling ridiculously cheap? I've got two or three 10L buckets of the stuff, enough for many, many years.

Yup @Scrungee, couldn't resist. Trouble is I can't use it on my Toms as already have loads of Chempak Tom food. What the hell can I use the Phostogen on? Beginning to see why it was being sold off! Most of my veg beds are highly manured so not lacking in much. Can I use Phostogen on Caulis and Brocolli as grew them last year with great success and plan to grow lots this. What do I use on spuds? I don't really "do" BFand B. Have no stop horse manure and think I have some Growmore kicking about. :mute: thought I was going to reduce my stock of Phostogen!!!!!
