My old Miele washing machine stood on a solid floor which wasn't a problem. I'm about to invest in a new one which will stand on floorboards but I'm concerned about the weight, particularly as it will be on more recent flooring being a newer property. The average weight of a new Miele is approximately 98kg - around 15 1/2 stone. Any thoughts on this would be good please. :)

Hi @Sheal - 15½ stone is lighter than a lot of humans, and I would like to bet that a large person jumping up and down would not be an issue on floorboards. With washing machines, it is not so much the static weight, but the laden weight coupled with motion. Full with washing, (lets say 8kg to push the limits that would bring you up to 23½ stone - still fairly well within safe limits I would say.

The MOST important thing about installing a washing machine is balance - it is vital that the machine is properly set up at installation time, with the feet set so that the machine is perfectly level, which in turn will minimise motion when it is in use.

Thanks for the info Russ. I had thought about the above but was considering the fact. It would be standing on the same spot for a good many years and wondered if that would have an eventual affect on the boards.

Yes I agree, this applies to most appliances. :)

Happy to help @Sheal, and especially happy that you are investing in such a quality product as a Miele :dbgrtmb: I have no doubt it will give you many years of good service in its chosen spot.

I've looked at a number of Bosch's, they all have pretty much the same program set up and almost impossible to select my own requirements outside those programs. The Miele's are more versatile. :)

I have Miele dishwashers but my clothes washer are Maytags. I can make up my own programs for both machines. Actually named them for when visitors want to use them. Always nice to create your own cycles and combos.

Are Miele's expensive to buy in Canada @CanadianLori? They are here.

Unfortunately my floor isn't level. I have to prop my washing machine up at one end with a wooden baton.

As long as the machine itself is properly level, you will minimise vibration, and hence minimise stress on the main bearings. :blue thumb:

Our washing machine is rather old. Every now and then it breaks down. We have an insurance policy on our appliances which means they will always be fixed. This washing machine must have had every component in it changed at least once, if not more. We would like a new machine. That isn't how the policy works. :gaah:

                            G.

ps. One day they will run out of components.

I paid about £1,200 for each dishwasher. My maytag clothes washer was about the same-some 15 years ago- and I'm still getiing my moneys worth out of it . Don't use the dryer (£700)often so it will probably last until I'm dead :)
