I've been doing quite a lot of reading up about Bats as know very little about them . I read that boxes should be grouped together for best success so I will be buying three or four. I suppose if the Bats don't like them the Bluetits might :snorky:.

@Kandy I don't think the Bats can get into the roof space - we've been here six years and it's never happened. The Rats got in one year and after numerous failed attempts at persuading them to vacate I gave up and they went out by themselves in the Spring. They just wanted somewhere warm and dry for the winter and luckily they didn't cause any damage.

That’s good @luciusmaximus if you can provide homes for them where they won’t get into your roof space then you will enjoy them for many years to come.:dbgrtmb:

Forgot to say Nerines are good for the bees in the garden and you will have lovely pink, white or cerise colours in the Autumn when other colours are fading.Sedums of all descriptions are very good for bees and butterflies but not sure if you already have them in your garden?

@Kandy I googled Nerines as not heard of them and couldn't find any info saying they are wildlife friendly. I dug up several clumps yesterday :oopss:, will have to try and replant them tomorrow. They look very pretty so I'm sure I will enjoy them. I don't seem to have much luck with Sedums. Despite them being reputedly quite tough they give up without a fight here. No idea why :dunno:.

@luciusmaximus I always manage to get seed on mine which I am growing on as new plants so I assume they are visited by the bees to pollinate them:smile:

Sedums like to have the sun on them and you need to split them up every few years so that the flowers don’t flop although I saw on Gardeners World end of last year that when you get the first spring growth on them to cut that growth off and they will regrow and won’t flop.I will have to try that this year.Ours are always full of bees and butterflies when the flowers open and I grow mine on clay soil.Butterfly bushes are also good for the bees as are Hollyhocks and Mallows and the bees go mad for them in my garden:smile:

If you don’t want the Nerines in the garden borders you can always grow them in large pots if the clumps have got too large:smile:

The Nerine bulbs are slightly toxic to wildlife (as are a lot of the lily family) but wildlife know that and don't attempt to eat them. That's why deer leave them alone.

I imagine most bulbs are toxic to mammals. Do you have Deer in your garden Shiney??

Not any longer! I put up a 2 metre high chicken wire fence that kept most of them out but some still managed to get in :rolleyespink: Since I've been hanging soap on the fence (about four years) they've kept away. :blue thumb:

Its been a hectic weekend. Yesterday afternoon I spent watching the football. In the evening my wife and I drove to Grantham (about an hour) to a hotel where we had a murder mystery dinner. We then stayed the night. This morning we drove from there to Norfolk (about an hour and a half). We called in and had a coffee and a chat with a friend of my wife's. Then we went on to my granddaughters birthday party. We drove home (about an hour) and got home around 6pm. We are both shatteted.

I've been looking at houses in Norfolk. The prices are :yikes: :hate-shocked:. It seems to be the case wherever I look. I have not been able to find anything similar to what I have now for my budget. Even in North Wales the prices seem to have rocketed :th scifD36:

@luciusmaximus This may give you an idea of prices around the country. You can zoom in or out.

Although, in Norfolk, the further you move from either Norwich or the coast the cheaper they should be.

Areas such as Cumbria can vary considerably. A lot of the places near the coast can be under 150k whereas you go inland into the Lake District they can be up to three times that price.

@luciusmaximus I keep looking at Norfolk because we enjoy ornithology and see that the prices are quiet high because it is popular with people hunting for rare birds. As Shiney says the further away from the coast the cheaper the houses but then you have the problem of getting to the beach if you are a dog walker especially when you start getting older then it can be a problem trying to drive to these areas and in the summer the roads and beaches are chocca with tourists:sad:

Also like Cumbria and other places in the country flooding can be a problem in all those places when you get extremely high spring tides as we have all seen in recent years on the news:sad:

They always blame outsiders for pushing the prices up and saying that youngsters in the area can’t get on the housing ladder but as I have found recently it is often the locals in these places that are buying up the properties to use them as holiday lets to make extra money so it isnt always the outsiders who are to blame:sad:

I know someone whose cottage we stayed in in the Lake District (Coniston) and he has bought practically every house that comes on to the market so has a very big self catering portfolio. We only stayed the once because the next year when he sent us a brochure his price for that same cottage went from £300 a week to over a £1,000 a week. Greedy or what:mad:

PS,Wewent to the lottie yesterday morning and got 2 1/2 hours work done but my feet were killing me and as well as a swollen foot my ankle was swollen as well so ended up having to rest it for the rest of the day:sad:

Been off work all week sick, was plaster boarding our living room ceiling last Saturday to hide the dreaded Artex, as were putting our house on the market this summer. Just finished putting up the last piece, was moving the tv stand and I pulled a muscle in my back and ended up on the floor in severe pain, the muscle had gone in to spasm.
So was unable to move for about 30 minutes.
Went to work Monday morning, lucky I drive a automatic, Mrs T said I was stupid to go in, was sent home by my manager.
So all work stopped at the moment, can't stand being off work unless on holiday
