Hi, I'm a newbie on the forum and beginner gardener and need some sage advice on greenhouse improvement.
I acquired a tiny 6x4 (wide X depth)greenhouse as a secondhand purchase from a neighbour and am wanting to improve ventilation by adding opening roof window and louvre. The only current opening window is a tiny triangular section in the eaves of the back wall and of course the sliding door.
The trouble is, I have no idea of the make of the greenhouse frame. Looking at new greenhouses, it could be a Halls Popular, but at least a decade old.
So, can anyone help with what kit I might use and where it might be bought?
    Thanks in anticipation!

Kits for adding windows are available, this link is just the first I found, and it's for a 6 foot wide greenhouse, but might not fit 4 foot deep ones as it may need fitting between 2 intermediate raking glazing bars and even then probably best to check with Halls first that it would fit your model.

            Hi,

Can you post a pic of your greenhouse, someone might recognise it and the make.

If you search on 6x4 Greenhouses and select Images you will see that some do have top vents that fit onto the outer glazing bar, our 6ft wide one has two openers , one on each of the outer bars, but it is down to the individual make.

The missing horizontal bar you mentioned for securing the opener is usually either part of the vent kit or available as a spare from the makers.

For that size, not sure I would bother with a bottom louver, using the door as the main 'incoming' air flow.

An alternative way, depending on your inclinations, would be to use a temperature controlled fan say on or near where the current rear vent is, using mains power if available, or solar powered.

Oh for the old fashioned cedarwood greenhouse. I bought mine in 1984 second hand when I was forced to retire. Lost count of the alterations I've made.

To be honest at only four foot deep with a small vent at upper back wall and door wide open I do not see you having any ventilation problems.

Oh! a thousand thank you's Mam. I enjoy your banter. Your banter and my 'wicked' sense of humour brightens up my day:rasp:. I have replaced the glass roof with twin wall polycarbonate panels.. I keep the bubble plasic insulation fixed all year. There is a staging along both sides. I have water laid on, (plus an empty can)??????;);) Hope to treat the woodwork this year. Got lots of pots to get rid of. Might even give up, greenhouse growing. Take care. Stay Safe.

I have 2 6x4 breenhouses and they can neat up very quickly. I started with the auto vent openers and last year took them apRt to add louvres. Big improvement. I don't like to leave the door open because of chipmunks and squirrels raiding them. I put bug screening over tne lou res. Just pinned on with clothes pefs.z

I forget where I got them but I managed to find d a couple of auto openers for less than the Palram ones sold as accessories for my greenhouses and variuos nuts and bolts was all I needed to retrofit them.

Sorry about the typos... my tablet can be a challenge...

I forgot to mention that in the meantime, a simple piece of broomstick will prop open any ceiling opening you can find. Just make sure it's secure, particularly if your geenhouse is glass. Polycarbonate ones like mine just making a slamming noise if the stick gets dislodged but a glass one could suffer severe damage.

Pics would be lovely if you are able :)
